Welcome to Walden
Philosophy
In many ways camp life reflects
the influences of the period in which we are living. In the twenties,
thirties and forties just going to camp was an adventure in itself.
The fifties were supposedly the "quiet generation", but life
at camp was never quiet. The unrest of the sixties and early seventies
were reflected in the challenges to discipline and the willingness to
give up personal desires for a better world. The eighties and nineties
saw campers with greater expectations for personal achievement and who
seemed to flourish more in the less pressured camp atmosphere, than
the one experienced during their school year.
This same desire for personal
achievement is prevalent today, and through all these changes, Walden
continues to provide a safe, secure, nurturing environment, in which
each camper is encouraged to believe in themselves, and with support
from a close circle of friends, can accomplish anything they choose,
so long as they hold onto their highest dreams.
We are warm, caring and personal.
We work together to help each camper grow towards becoming a secure
adult, who likes and has confidence in herself and who is ready to contribute
to the peace and happiness of the life around her.
