MEET OUR STAFF
Letter from The Director

Dear Walden Community,

I hope this letter finds you all warm and well. Now that I am starting my second year as camp director and the challenges of the first year are behind me, I feel like I know how to run with my feet under me once again. Throughout these chilly winter months I am eagerly thinking of the upcoming summer in Maine. After just one summer as camp director, I find that I miss campers and camp itself much more than I ever would have expected. It is amazing how Walden seems to pull people in.

This will be our 95th summer at Camp Walden and I am thrilled with what we have in store for both current and former campers. We are working to make camp and all of its activities ready for your arrival. Once the snow cover is gone this spring, we can begin looking forward to several property improvements to coincide with our 95th Anniversary Celebration this July. Welcoming alumnae mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts and grandmothers back to Walden to reunite with each other and meet current campers will be a very special occasion.

For current Walden families, I am pleased to announce that all of our senior staff will be returning this year, along with many of our incredible counselors from last summer. Over the winter Carolyn has been tweaking the trips to make them more challenging and interesting for all of our age groups. Elesa is already thinking about the best way to schedule your activities, and Lynn is working on making 2010 the best summer possible. Soon we will meet with Bunk 12 at Snow Farm and go through the exciting process of choosing their theme, writing their songs and welcoming new campers.

Amidst all of the preparations for next summer, my husband, daughter and I moved from Vermont in January to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to be closer to my family. The snow seemed to follow us south and has made getting to know our way around Pittsburgh a bit of a challenge. After living in Vermont, it is strange to live in a city that shuts down with a few feet of the stuff! Happily, the snow is slowly starting to melt away and spring—and the start of camp—is quickly approaching.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer--new campers, returning campers and alumnae alike. Here’s to our 95th wonderful year!

Warm regards,

Karen “KK” Krieger
